Progression from Data to Information to Knowledge
Data: Unprocessed or raw facts; a static set of transactional element, such as 0211102345
Information: Processed data; an aggregation of data that have meaning. For example, a financial analysis report that begins with account number 021-110-2345.
Knowledge: A person's range of information, embracing a wider sphere than information. It includes perception, skills, training, common sense, and expert. For example, a financial analyst might say, "All indicators tell me that I'd better pull out of XYZ stock before year end."
So, knowledge is the information that one person has and integrates it into use.
What about Technology? I think.... Technology is a transformation of fact and knowledge into use.

For my perspective, I take:
1. Technology as a scaffold - facilitating & manage the process, and use of knowledge & associated business processes
2. effects of using technology - e.g. greater interaction, technology can be used for structuring tasks,
3. technology for transforming practices - tool for participation & meaning making, focus is more on how technology can support work activities, social systems (this perspective aligns with what you are saying)
4. then there is the KM approach focusing around process oriented knowledge management systems (KMS, practice based on KMS or both

I have one more question. see if you can help.
From the definition of knowledge, it sounds like there are some differences between Thai word "ความรู้" and the word "knowledge".
The knowledge defined above includes the capability to use the information. The example clearly showed that the analyst was able to use the information to avoid the possible financial diaster. I understand this as the "capability".
But in Thai, we usually say these words together such as "วัตถุประสงค์ คือ ต้องการให้บัณฑิตมีความรู้ ความสามารถ ในสาขา..." These two Thai words are totally separate entities of a person's attributes. Do you agree?
What is your thought?
(My argument here is to check the perception of the same word in these two languages. Does it mean that I always have to use these two Thai words together when I really mean "knowledge"?)

Knowleddge is defined according to different perspectives, so it depends which perspectvie you follow.
For the question, I think it could use the words ความรู้ ความสามารถ together.
