Plagiarism # 2 - Examples

Given below are 4 examples of comments given on publications that were analyzed for plagiarism using deja vu.

The search result was extracted by using a keyword that is the "name" of a Thai University, and was described as "DUPLICATE".

  1. >99% of the text in the duplicate is present in the original. Some of the numbers are different between the two papers, but some are the same. They all still maintain similar ratios and percentages. The articles have the exact same methods and conclusions. There is 1 table in the duplicate which appears in the original. The duplicate does not cite the original paper. The original article has 18 references. All of the duplicate's 14 references are present in the original's set of references (100%). The article was originally published in an American journal and then republished 8 months later in a Thai journal by different authors.
  2. After reviewing the full-text articles for both the earlier and later publications, I have discovered that 95% of the methods and materials section is duplicated in the later paper. Whole sentences are duplicated in describing the experimental method. There are no new conclusions presented in the paper and many of the results are around the same numbers. The data is presented in a table referred to as Table 1 and this is a duplication of the data table featured in the earlier article. There are whole sentences duplicated in the discussion and introduction of the paper but there are also number sentences not present in the earlier paper. 13 out of 24 (54.17%) references are cited in the later paper that are also cited in the earlier paper. The later paper cites the earlier. The articles were published in different journals, 10 years apart.
  3. After reviewing the full-text documents for both the earlier and later articles, it is evident that the later article shares approximately 80% of the text with the earlier article. The later article also shares 3 data tables and 12/13 citations in the references section with the earlier article. The later article cites the original article in the references section.
  4. Both abstracts are similar, but with several grammatical changes. Published in separate Thai journals 1 year apart.

The later articles indicated above were submitted by Thai authors.
