Background and Rational
Foundation for International Human Resource Development (FIHRD) was established by the approval of the Royal Thai Government in 1998 to develop human resources for GMS countries such as Cambodia, Myanmar, Laos, Vietnam and China (Yunnan) to create international relation through human resources development.
In 2008, Foundation for International Human Resource Development (FIHRD) conducted research on Human Resources in GMS Tourism Sector funded by Thailand International Development Cooperation Agency (TICA). The objectives of this research were to study the importance of human resources in tourism sector of each GMS country, to study the strength and weaknesses of human resources in tourism sector of each GMS country, to study strategies for human resources development in tourism sector and organize suitable human resources development projects to respond to GMS policy and each country’s needs.
Referring to the research result, Foundation for International Human Resource Development (FIHRD) co-hosted the following projects.
These projects received good feedbacks and there should be more follow-up projects on tourism for GMS countries.
Therefore, Foundation for International Human Resource Development (FIHRD)
would like to cooperate with Thailand International Development Cooperation Agency (TICA), Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) Ministry of Tourism and Sports, Thai Chamber of Commerce, Thailand Management Association (TMA) and Integrated Human Development Center (iHDC) to organize International Conference on GMS Tourism.
Objectives
1. To create good international understanding among GMS countries
2. To promote People-to-People Diplomacy (PPD) among GMS countries
3. To promote future tourism cooperation among GMS countries
4. To develop competitiveness of GMS tourism sector and promote sustainable development
5. To develop human resource to suit GMS tourism sector demands
6. To exchange experience in tourism among GMS countries
7. To ask each GMS governments to follow up with their own trainings.
8. To publish the findings into a final report in English
9. To have common perception about tourism cooperation to be further implemented in each country and/or under regional cooperation such as ACMECS and GMS
10. To publicize GMS tourism and TICA to Thais
